The funeral of former world rally champion Colin McRae takes place today.

The rally driver will be laid to rest alongside his five-year-old son Johnny, who also died when the helicopter they were in crashed earlier this month.

McRae (39), a licensed pilot, had been flying the plane when it crashed in the grounds of his Jerviswood home, about a mile north of Lanark.

Six-year-old Ben Porcelli, a friend of Johnny, also died in the crash, as did Graeme Duncan (37), who lived in France and had gone to school with the driver.

The funeral of McRae and his son will take place in Daldowie Crematorium, in the village of Uddingston, South Lanarkshire.

The untimely death almost two weeks ago stunned motorsport fans around the world, with tributes being paid by three-time Formula One world champion and fellow Scot Sir Jackie Stewart, as well as Scottish F1 ace Davie Coulthard.

"It's a sad loss for Scotland of a real hero and an immensely popular friend," said Sir Jackie.

McRae hailed from a well-known motor racing family, with his father Jimmy a five-time British rally champion. He had a wife and a daughter.
