LONDON - Actress Helen Mirren (50) last night sidestepped questions about whether she sympathised with the IRA as she attended the premiere of her controversial new film, Some Mother's Son.

She said she did not regard the film, slated by critics as IRA propaganda, as political. The film is an account of the 1981 Maze Prison hunger strikes, with Ms Mirren playing the mother of a convicted terrorist.
