The Mayo division of the Garda Representative Association will not support any ministerial proposal of legislation that would effectively remove its democratic right to determine its own structures.

Referring to a statement from the Minister for Justice, Ms Owen, the Mayo national executive member, Garda Michael Staunton, said that gardai in the county would not subscribe to any government imposed organisation or solution that would remove the independence of their association and its right to represent the Garda.
