Martin opens O'Rahilly Building

The Minister for Education, Mr Martin, yesterday officially opened the £14

The Minister for Education, Mr Martin, yesterday officially opened the £14.5 million O'Rahilly Building at University College Cork, which houses the university's language departments and part of the business faculty.

The building is named after a former UCC president, Dr Alfred O'Rahilly, and was one-third funded by the State, one-third funded by the EU and one-third funded by private means.

The UCC president, Dr Michael Mortell, paid tribute to the business people of Cork for their support, particularly the Smurfit Company which was a major donor and after whom a wing would be named.
