LIMA - Suspected Maoist rebels tossed a bomb at an electric company yesterday on the outskirts of the Peruvian capital, Lima, shattering windows and causing minor damage. Police said there were no injuries and no deaths.
Peru's two rebel groups, the Shining Path and smaller Tupac Amaru Revolutionary' Movement (MRTA), have often bombed government and business installations in 16 years of guerrilla wars. A group of 15 heavily armed MRTA guerrillas are holding 72 hostages at the Japanese ambassador's residence in Lima.
