A man who forged stolen cheques at a number of hotels and guesthouses around the State was jailed for 16 months at Sligo District Court yesterday.

The court was told that David Michael Detuill (41), of Mallard Road, Scunthorpe, South Humberside, England, came to Ireland early last month.

After stealing a chequebook at a bed and breakfast in Castleisland, Co Kerry, he visited hotels and guesthouses on the pretence of making advance bookings for groups of people.
