Police today executed the first European extradition warrant for a man wanted

in Ireland for allegedly stealing a yacht.

Mr  Lawrence Andrew McMillan (52), is accused of taking the boat from CrosshavenBoatyard in Co Cork last October, Scotland Yard said.

He is also alleged to have stolen three Rolex watches in July 2003 from

jewellers in Killarney, Co Kerry, and Galway City.

Mr McMillan, a British citizen who has no fixed address, is due to appear before

Bow Street Magistrates court in London tomorrow.

The European extradition warrant was introduced at the start of this month to

speed up the process.

The Home Office said a normal case between EU countries should now take about

two to three  months, compared to the previous average of 18 months.

There will also be no ministerial involvement, with all extradition's within the EU now a purely judicial process.
