A 22-year-old man shot in west Belfast today was the victim of a gang fall out, it was claimed.

The attack happened in the Kerrykeel Gardens area.

The man was later treated at the Royal Victoria Hospital but his injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

West Belfast SDLP councillor Tim Attwood said the man suffered leg injuries.

The attack, he said, did not appear to be a paramilitary, factional or domestic incident.

It seemed to be a falling out among a gang or gangs.

He added: "The big concern is that in a heavily residential area with children returning from school, guns were used to settle some dispute.

"The community rejects this, doesn't want this and resents anybody or any group bringing this type of thing back into the community."
