A jury at the Central Criminal Court has found a defendant not guilty of rape but guilty of aggravated sexual assault of his wife in the garden of their home. The jury's decision came on the eighth day of the trial. The guilty verdict on aggravated sexual assault was by an 11-1 majority.

The 41-year-old father, who denied three charges of rape, attempted anal rape and aggravated sexual assault on his wife on the night of July 18th-19th, 1998, was remanded on bail for sentence on May 19th.
