A man set fire to his ex-girlfriend’s car when he saw another man in her house, Dublin Circuit Criminal Court has heard.

John Farrell (26) also smashed in the windows of her flat after getting into an argument with the man. He was remanded on bail pending sentence in July.

Farrell, Hawthorn Way, Esker Hills, Portlaoise, Co Laois, pleaded guilty to two counts of criminal damage at Finn Street, Dublin, on April 19th, 2009.

Garda Richard Keegan told Fiona McGowan, prosecuting, that Farrell had been drinking heavily before he went to his former girlfriend’s house. On arrival he saw the outline of a man through the door and began kicking it.

When the door was opened he forced his way in and, after an argument with the man, Farrell smashed a downstairs window, then threw a bottle through an upstairs window.
