Man scarred for life, court hears

A court heard yesterday that a 40-year-old prison officer who was attacked by three prisoners will be scarred for life

A court heard yesterday that a 40-year-old prison officer who was attacked by three prisoners will be scarred for life. Garda Insp Seamus Gallagher, Henry Street, told the court that the prison officer received 75 stitches.

Judge Tom O'Donnell was told that the alleged incident took place in Limerick prison on January 5th last. Before Limerick District Court were the three prisoners who allegedly attacked the prison officer, Mr Alan Kavanagh. They are charged that they intentionally or recklessly caused serious harm. The judge remanded the three accused in custody until April 6th.
