State Pathologist Dr Marie Cassidy is to carry out a preliminary examination on the body of a  65-year-old man who was found dead at his home in Sligo town today.

The discovery was made when a friend called at the home in the Riverside area of the town. The man had not been seen since midday yesterday. Gardaí said it is not clear how the man died and are keeping an open mind pending the Pathologist's report. A post mortem examination will be carried out later. The man's identity has not been revealed.
