Man remanded over fatal hit and run

A man has been remanded in custody charged in connection with a fatal collision in Co Monaghan.

A man has been remanded in custody charged in connection with a fatal collision in Co Monaghan.

Shane O’Farrell (23) died on Tuesday night when he was struck by a car on the N2 Dublin to Derry road between Carrickmacross and Castleblayney. The driver fled the scene after the crash.

Zigmantas Grigzuiskas (38), with an address at Ard Ross Avenue in Carrickmacross, appeared at a sitting of the District Court in Dundalk today.

He is charged with dangerous driving, failing to stop, failing to report an accident and failing to keep his vehicle at the scene of the crash.

Mr Grigzuiskas, who presented himself at Carrickmacross Garda station yesterday, was remanded in custody with consent to bail. He is to appear at Carrickmacross District Court on September 28th.
