Gardaí have released without charge a man being questioned over the death of a woman in Kilkenny on Saturday.

The man, who was arrested in Cahir, Co Tipperary, was released early this morning, and a file has been sent to the DPP.

Lorraine White (42) died during surgery after she was admitted to St Luke's Hospital in Kilkenny with major internal injuries on Saturday morning.

It is believed Ms White had been beaten and repeatedly stabbed in her abdomen and her lower body at her home on Bridge Street, Callan, Co Kilkenny.

Deputy State Pathologist Michael Curtis carried out a postmortem yesterday.
