A man in his 20s who was arrested in relation to a serious assault on a 41-year-old taxi driver in Dublin yesterday morning has been released without charge.

A file is being prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions. 

The man was arrested in the south inner city last night.

The male victim was left in a serious condition in hospital after he was assaulted at 12.20am on Pearse Street near the junction of Erne Street.

He was taken to St James’s Hospital, where his condition is described as serious.
