Rome - A man with a gun burst into a northern Italian hospital on Sunday and switched off the respirator keeping alive his comatose wife, saying he wanted to put her out of her misery, police said.
"After embracing her he cut off her oxygen, saying he didn't want her to suffer any more," a police spokesman said from Monza.
The woman, aged 52, had suffered from a long degenerative illness and was in a coma from which she was not expected to recover. The gun was not loaded.
