A man who tied up the caretaker of Clontarf Lawn Tennis Club and his wife during a robbery has been jailed for 5 1/2 years

A man who tied up the caretaker of Clontarf Lawn Tennis Club and his wife during a robbery has been jailed for 5 1/2 years. Brian Westby (29), of St Lawrence Road, Clontarf, Dublin, was a member of a four-man masked gang who forced their way into the club after midnight on November 20th, 1995. He carried a hammer while another man held a syringe.

Westby pleaded guilty at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court to stealing £1,460 and 40 bottles of spirits and to falsely imprisoning Mr Patrick Byrne.
