A man who assisted companions drink a keg of beer worth £110, taken from a Co Derry public house, was jailed for 12 months at Magherafelt Magistrates Court yesterday.

Hugo Dominic McElroy (45), unemployed, of Mimosa Court, Derry, admitted a series of offences including handling the stolen beer, belonging to Dalton's Bar, Claudy. The defence lawyer pointed out that McElroy was not the prime mover in the theft of the beer, but by helping to drink it he had to admit handling the stolen property.
