An Italian charged with dangerous driving causing death was remanded on bail at Wicklow District Court yesterday.

Mr Alessandro Antonelli (23), from Florence, was charged arising out of a fatal road accident in which two people died on August 26th last. Mr Antonelli was charged with causing the death of a Dublin mother-of-three, Mrs Cora Hallinan.

Mr Antonelli's solicitor, Mr David Tarrant, asked for an adjournment to February 16th next, with a possible trial during the February sitting of the Circuit Court.

He said his client was suffering hardship because of a lack of funds in Ireland and his air ticket was out of date.

Mr Antonelli had already applied to the High Court for leave to return to Italy pending his trial. That court indicated if a favourable report was received from Interpol the court would be willing to allow him to await trial in Italy.

However, Judge Donnacha O Buachalla said he would not proceed without a High Court order. The case was adjourned to Gorey Court on September 25th.
