THE Ardcavan area of Wexford town was sealed off last night following a gas explosion which destroyed a car sales outlet.

The blast which happened shortly after 5 p.m. blew out the walls and roof of Tony Roche's Car Sales Ltd, where a number of staff were working at the time.

One employee, Mr Michael Byrne, was taken to Wexford General Hospital for treatment of burns, although he was not thought to have been seriously injured.

Gardai said the explosion happened when a fire started in the workshop and ignited a gas cylinder. Two other cylinders on the premises gave rise to fears of a further explosion and gardai sealed off the area.
