Man injured in Derry shooting

Police in Derry are investigating the circumstances surrounding the shooting of a 24-year-old man in the city last night.

Police in Derry are investigating the circumstances surrounding the shooting of a 24-year-old man in the city last night.

A number of masked men entered a house on Cable Street in the city shortly after 10pm.

One of the men went upstairs to a front bedroom of the house and fired a number of shots. None struck the victim, who was lying in bed. A second man then went upstairs and shot the victim in the back of his right leg.

The men then escaped by running out the backdoor of the house.

The victim was taken to hospital where his injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.
