A man (68) was injured today in what gardaí believe was a gas explosion at a house in Co Donegal.

Emergency services were called to the scene in Cluain Baire, Falcarragh shortly after 10pm last night.

A Garda spokeswoman said the house was “extensively damaged” in the explosion but initial indications suggested the blast was not suspicious.

The man was initially taken to Letterkenny General Hospital before being transferred to St James's Hospital in Dublin. His injuries are not life threatening.

Gardaí have cordoned off the scene of the explosion and are due to carry out a forensic examination of the house later this afternoon.
