A 23-year-old man has been taken to hospital suffering from gunshot wounds to his lower leg following a paramilitary-style shooting in Co Derry last night.

The incident happened at around 10pm last night in the Bogside area of the city.

PSNI officers investigating the incident came under attack from youths throwing stones. A male officer had to be taken to hospital after he was struck on the head. His injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.
