A man has appeared in court charged with the murder of his 53-year-old neighbour in Dublin.

Bernard Locke (39), from Prussia Street in the Stoneybatter area of north Dublin, is accused of killing Christopher Jackson.

The dead man, who lived in the building with his partner and son, was found in a plastic bag in a wardrobe in his own flat. He had suffered multiple stab wounds.

Mr Locke, dressed in black, did not speak during the brief hearing and sat with his arms folded as Detective Sergeant Kevin Daly read out the charge at the Dublin District Court.

His address is the same building where Mr Jackson was found dead.

Judge Patricia McNamara remanded the accused in custody until Thursday and granted him legal aid.

Mr Locke had been questioned for nearly 24 hours at Bridewell Garda station before he appeared in the court this morning.

Gardai made the discovery on Saturday and it is believed Mr Jackson's body may have been in the flat for a number of days.

Another man and a woman remain in Garda custody in connection with the murder.
