Gardaí investigating the death of a publican in Co Offaly earlier this month have arrested a man this afternoon.

Gardaí investigating the death of a publican in Co Offaly earlier this month have arrested a man this afternoon.

The man, who is in his late 20s, is being held at Tullamore Garda station under section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act.

Matthew Farrell (64) died during a botched robbery at the Gaelic Bar pub in Daingean, Co Offaly, on April 1st.

His body was discovered tied to a chair in the downstairs area of his pub by his son Matthew at 7.30am.
