Gardaí in Limerick have arrested a man and recovered a firearm - understood to be a machine gun - during the search of a hotel room in the city.
Detectives from the Roxboro Road Garda Station, assisted by members of the Regional Support Unit, carried out the search at a hotel on the Ennis Road last night, as part of an operation against criminal activity in the city.
A Garda spokesman said a firearm and silencer was recovered.
A man aged in his 30s was arrested and is being detained at Roxboro Road Garda Station under Section 30 of the Offences against the State Act.
