Man held over double stabbing in Leitrim

Gardai were today continuing to question a man after a double stabbing in Co Leitrim.

Two Polish nationals - aged 26 and 33 - were rushed to Sligo General Hospital after the attack in Carrick-on-Shannon at 11pm last night.

Garda were called to the scene at a laneway near the Archway Apartments on the town's Main Street after reports of an assault.

Their injuries have been described as serious but not life-threatening.

A 24-year-old man - also a Polish national - was arrested some time later and continues to be quizzed by Gardai at Carrick-on-Shannon.

He can be detained for up to 12 hours for questioning.
