Man held over death of Offaly publican

A MAN has been arrested in connection with the death of Offaly publican Matt Farrell.

A MAN has been arrested in connection with the death of Offaly publican Matt Farrell.

He was arrested in Galway yesterday under section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act, for withholding information on the death of the pensioner at his home on April 1st.

The man (28) who is from Co Laois has not been questioned previously by gardaí and can be held for up to 72 hours.

Insp Pat Murray from Tullamore Garda station is asking anyone who passed through Daingean between midnight and 7am on March 31st-April 1st to contact the Garda at 057-932 8078.

Insp Murray says that the Garda are anxious to eliminate certain vehicles from being considered in their inquiries.

Mr Farrell died of head injuries following a break-in at his home, in which he slept on the ground floor in a room just off the bar.
