A 19-year-old man is being held in connection with the shooting of teenage girl in the Ringsend area of Dublin city early this morning.

18-year-old Christina Ward was shot and injured at an unofficial halting site on Pidgeon House road.

Two balaclava clad men armed with a shotgun entered a caravan on the halting site and fired one shot which hit the girl in the leg.

The gunmen then drove off in the direction of the East Link Bridge.

The woman was brought to St Vincent's Hospital where she is being treated for injuries which are not thought to be life threatening.

Garda forensic experts have been the scene of the shooting.

The 19-year-old man was detained at around 11.30 a.m. and is being held at Donnybrook Garda Station under section 30 of the Offences against the State Act.
