A 35-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of drugs offences following the seizure in Co Down of a substantial quantity of herbal cannabis.

The drugs were seized by PSNI officers during a planned search of a vehicle which was stopped on the Dublin Road in Loughbrickland at around 2pm yesterday.

Police have valued the drugs at an estimated Stg £200,000.

Officers attached to the Organised Crime Branch assisted by officers from the Roads Policing Unit and Specialist Operations Branch carried out the search operation.

A police spokesman said the arrested man would appear before Newry Magistrate’s Court today.
