A Bosnian was jailed for five years yesterday for the oral rape of a Dublin prostitute in 1995. The court was told that the woman wanted to see Meho Slavotic helped. Mr Justice Geoghegan said the man should receive educational help in prison, particularly to improve his command of English. Slavotic needed the assistance of an interpreter for the court proceedings.

Mr Sean Ryan SC (with Desmond Zaidan BL), prosecuting, said it was not his understanding that Slavotic would have to leave the country on his release from prison. His family was living in Ireland. In October Slavotic (44) was found guilty by a 10-2 majority verdict of the rape, committed in his home at Valley View in Swords on July 1st, 1995.

Slavotic came to Ireland from Sarajevo in Bosnia four years ago.
