Man for court over hatchet incident

Police in Co Derry have charged a 44-year-old man with possession of an offensive weapon in a public place.

Police in Co Derry have charged a 44-year-old man with possession of an offensive weapon in a public place.

The man is believed to have chased children down a street in Strathfoyle wielding a hatchet shortly before 10pm on Friday night.

Officers had to use a taser gun to arrest him. He will appear before Derry Magistrates Court tomorrow.

A 42-year-old man was also arrested but later released on police bail.
