Man fatally hit by truck on motorway

A man has died in a road incident close to Mitchelstown, Co Cork, this morning.

A man has died in a road incident close to Mitchelstown, Co Cork, this morning.

The victim was struck by a truck at about 11.15am on the M8 and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The incident occurred on the southbound lane of the motorway, which is now closed for forensic examination. The road is expected to be shut for several hours.

Elsewhere, a man (24) was killed in a single-vehicle road crash in Co Galway.

The victim died when his car hit a ditch near Dunmore shortly before midnight. His body was removed to University College Hospital, Galway.
