Man drowns after falling overboard

A man drowned today after he fell overboard from a fishing boat off the west coast, gardai said.

A man drowned today after he fell overboard from a fishing boat off the west coast, gardai said.

The incident happened at about 6am about 30 miles west of the Aran Islands and involved an Irish-based trawler with a crew of five.

The Coast Guard sent a helicopter to the scene. The body of the man, a polish national in his 30s, was taken to University College Hospital, Galway.
