A 47-year-old man died in an early morning house fire in Co Roscommon today.

A 47-year-old man died in an early morning house fire in Co Roscommon today.

Five other people escaped uninjured from the house at Onagh, Taughmaconnell when the blaze broke out around 5am.

The man who died in the fire was originally from Poland and believed to be working with a construction company in Athlone.

Gardaí in Ballinasloe Co Galway are investigating the circumstances surrounding the man's death. The house was preserved for technical examination.

The man's body was taken to Portiuncula Hospital in Ballinasloe where a post-mortem examination will take place.
