A man has died in a house fire in Co Mayo.
The fire broke out this morning at the 69-year-old victim’s home at Seaview Road, Newport, near Westport.
A neighbour raised the alarm and two units of Mayo fire brigade, one from Westport, the other from Castlebar, responded.
The man was found dead in a downstairs room of the house, which was badly damaged. The roof was completely destroyed.
The victim’s body was taken to Mayo General Hospital in Castlebar for a postmortem.
Foul play is not suspected.
