Man dies following river Liffey rescue

A MAN has died in hospital after he was rescued from the river Liffey by a garda.

A MAN has died in hospital after he was rescued from the river Liffey by a garda.

The man entered the water at Victoria Quay shortly before 9am on Thursday. He was spotted by a passerby, who alerted the garda. The officer went into the water after the man.

Both were taken from the river by members of the Fire Brigade.

They were brought to St James’s Hospital, where the man was pronounced dead on Thursday afternoon. The garda, who is stationed in Kilmainham, is in a stable condition in hospital.
