A man who was stabbed to death in Limerick City last night was named as Mr James O'Connor (36) of Clarin Park, Ballinacurra, Weston. Gardai found Mr O'Connor in a pool of blood in Hyde Avenue, Prospect, with what appeared to be stab wounds to the lower body. It is believed his assailants jumped from a car. He was taken to Limerick Regional Hospital, but died an hour later.

Mr O'Connor worked as a painter and decorator, and was described by neighbours as a quiet man who enjoyed playing darts.

The scene of the stabbing is being preserved for examination by the Chief State Pathologist. Gardai are appealing to anyone with information on the incident to contact Roxboro station in Limerick.
