An incident that led to the death of a Dublin man when he was run over by a limousine after jumping on the bonnet was a tragic misunderstanding, Dublin Coroner’s Court heard yesterday.

Father of two Liam “Bill” Stafford (28), from Drinagh Park in Ballyogan, Dublin 18, was unaware there was anyone in the car when he jumped on the bonnet. However, the driver panicked and drove off.

Dara O’Sullivan (22), driver and co-owner of the limousine, said he was inside with three friends when they saw two men approaching at Clonard Lawns in Sandyford in the early hours of November 8th, 2009.

“They were bigger and older than us. We were all scared in the car. We all just panicked,” he said.

Following a Garda investigation, Mr O’Sullivan was charged with dangerous driving causing death, and was acquitted.
