Man denies Waterford murder

A man has pleaded not guilty to the murder of a 27-year-old who was fatally stabbed in a house in Waterford city last year.

A man has pleaded not guilty to the murder of a 27-year-old who was fatally stabbed in a house in Waterford city last year.

John Flaherty (25), Ard Daire, Ferrybank, Waterford, has gone on trial at the Central Criminal Court, sitting in Waterford, for the murder of father-of-one Patrick Murphy who died on June 20th, 2010.

Mr Murphy, who was originally from Dublin but whose family lived in Piltown, Co Kilkenny, was fatally stabbed at The Glen, Waterford.

A jury was sworn in yesterday to hear the case, which is expected to last up to three weeks before Mr Justice George Birmingham.
