A man accused of murdering his cell mate in Mountjoy prison in 2006 has pleaded not guilty at the Central Criminal Court in Dublin today.

Stephen Egan (25) of Belcamp Crescent, Coolock, Dublin denies murdering Gary Douche (21) at the prison on August 1st, 2006.

The jury of six men and six women were told by Mr Justice George Bermingham there would be an issue relating to Mr Egan's mental capacity and possible diminished responsibility.

The trial is expected to last two days.
