Man dead after plane crashes in Mayo

One man has died after a small plane crashed at Kilmovee, Co Mayo earlier this afternoon.

One man has died after a small plane crashed at Kilmovee, Co Mayo earlier this afternoon.

The plane, which was on its way to Weston Airport in Dublin had set off from Ireland West Airport at Knock earlier in the day when it crashed at 4.45 pm.

The single engine aircraft had two men on board and one male aged 51 years was pronounced dead at the scene. The second man  has been removed to Mayo General Hospital, Castlebar with serious injuries.

The Air Accident Investigation Unit and officials from the Department of Transport are en route to the scene of the crash.
