Man critical after Thurles attack

Gardai are appealing for witnesses to a serious assault which has left a man in a critical condition in hospital.

The attack occurred outside a pub on Mitchell Street, in Thurles, Co Tipperary, at about 1.30am this morning.

The 22-year old man is understood to have received facial injuries in the assault. He was transferred to South Tipperary General Hospital.

Supt Tony Cogan of Thurles Garda station said the scene of the incident was sealed off and that a team had been set up to investigate the incident.

Supt Cogan also appealed for witnesses to contact gardaí at Thurles.

“There were a number of people in the area at the time of this incident and we would appeal for anyone who may have witnessed it to come forward,” said Supt Cogan.
