A man is in a serious condition in hospital today after being assaulted in Coleraine.
Police are treating the attack in the Harpur's Hill area as attempted murder. Two men have been arrested.
Last week Catholic community worker Kevin McDaid (49) was beaten to death in Coleraine by a loyalist mob.
However, officers made clear they did not believe last night's incident was sectarian in motivation.
The injured man, who is in his 40s, was assaulted shortly before 8pm. Police have appealed for witnesses.
