An Albanian man has been sentenced to life in prison after being found guilty of the murder of a young woman in Sligo last year.

Eduart Kulici (26) with an address at The Maltings, Bonham Street, Dublin denied murdering 23 year old Lindita Kukaj, also an Albanian, at her home on Wolfe Tone Street, Sligo on February 22 2003.

A jury yesterday took over four hours to find the 26 year-old guilty of murdering his fellow national.

Following the unanimous verdict the mother and sister of Lindita wept as they recalled how much she loved this country and how she had hoped to make her home in Sligo.

Mr Justice Paul Carney imposed the mandatory sentence of life in prison.
