British police charged a 32-year-old Dutch man today with the murder of Joanna Yeates, the landscape architect who was found dead on Christmas Day after going missing more than a week earlier.
Avon and Somerset Police said Vincent Tabak, who lived next door to Yeates in Bristol, will appear at the city's magistrates court tomorrow.
Mr Tabak, an architectural engineer, was arrested on Thursday following a televised appeal by Yeates' parents for anyone with information about their daughter's death to come forward.
Yeates (25) was last seen on December 17th after buying a pizza and two bottles of cider on her way home from a Bristol pub.
Her body was found by the side of a country lane around two miles from her flat, eight days after she disappeared. A portmortem showed she had been strangled.
Detective chief inspector Phil Jones, who led the investigation, said in a statement: "This evening we have charged Vincent Tabak with the murder of Joanna Yeates.
"I would like to pay tribute to Jo's family and Greg (Yeates's boyfriend, Greg Reardon) for their assistance and dignity in the most difficult of circumstances. Their support to us has been invaluable."
