A MAN has appeared before the courts charged with the murders of two women at sheltered accommodation for psychiatric patients more than twelve years ago.

Mark Nash (36), originally from Huddersfield in the UK, appeared before Dublin District Court on Saturday in relation to the murders of Sylvia Shields and Mary Callinan in Grangegorman, Dublin, in March 1997.

The court heard that when the charges were put to the accused at the Bridewell Garda station earlier on Saturday morning Nash had nothing to say. He was remanded in custody to appear at Cloverhill District Court next Friday.

On March 7th, 1997, Ms Shields (58) and Ms Callinan (61) were found dead in the bedrooms of a four-bedroom house they shared at Orchard View, Grangegorman.
