Man charged with murder

A 36-year-old man appeared before Mountbellew District Court yesterday, charged with murdering an 80-year-old woman.

A 36-year-old man appeared before Mountbellew District Court yesterday, charged with murdering an 80-year-old woman.

Mr Thomas Murray, from Ballygar, Co Galway, is charged with the murder of Mrs Nancy Nolan, a retired teacher, at Bleannagloss, Bally gar, on February 14th. He was arrested yesterday morning by Det Sgt Tom Fitzmaurice, from Roscommon Garda Station.

Mr Garret Sheehan, defending, said he wanted it known that his client was in need of full-time psychiatric care.

Mr Murray, who was granted free legal aid, made no reply when charged with the murder.

Judge Michael Connellan remanded Mr Murray in custody to Castlerea Prison to appear before Ballinasloe District Court next Wednesday.
