Man charged over Waterford city murder

A Waterford city man has appeared in court charged with the murder of a man at a house in the city early last Sunday.

A Waterford city man has appeared in court charged with the murder of a man at a house in the city early last Sunday.

Patrick Murphy (27), who was from Co Dublin but had been living in Waterford for some years, died after he was stabbed at The Glen, a private two-storey terraced house, at about 5.30am on Sunday.

John Flaherty (24), Ard Daire, Ferrybank, Waterford city, appeared yesterday at the District Court on a charge of murdering Mr Murphy.

State Pathologist Prof Marie Cassidy carried out a postmortem examination at Waterford Regional Hospital on Sunday.

Supt Pádraig Dunne told Judge David Kennedy that file was “currently under completion”.

The matter was adjourned to July 6th for the service of the book of evidence.
