A 35-year-old man appeared in court in Co Leitrim charged in connection with the murder of a mother-of-four in Northern Ireland last month.

Jean Quigley (30), who was two months pregnant, was beaten to death in her home in the Shantallow area of Derry on July 26th. 

Stephen Trevor Cahoon, originally from Moneymore, Co Derry, was today charged at a special sitting of Carrick-on-Shannon District Court.

Mr Cahoon, who is unemployed, was remanded in custody to appear in Harristown court in Castlerea on August 15th.

He was arrested in Donegal on Tuesday following a request to the Garda by the PSNI and held under Section Four of the Criminal Justice Act.

He was subsequently taken to hospital after complaining of feeling ill.
